OSHAWA -- The youth group of Oshawa Little Theatre is presenting a free preview of its spring musical on May 10 at the Oshawa Centre. The preview of Just So, a musical based on Rudyard Kipling's stories, will be staged at 11 a.m., noon, 1 and 2 p.m. in the Centre Court. The actors will be in costume for the event.
Then you can see the full show at Oshawa Little Theatre, 62 Russett Ave., May 29 to June 7 at 7:30 p.m., plus a 2 p.m. matinee June 1. (There's also a school matinee on June 6, a PD day, at noon.)
The play, written by Anthony Drewe and George Stiles, features the Eldest Magician who, at the beginning of time, realizes all animals look alike. He starts them on a quest to discover their individual traits. But Pau Amma, the crab, declines and causes havoc with the sea. In an effort to stop him, the elephant's child sets off with the flightless kolokolo bird to find the crab. Along the way, they help other animals discover their true selves.
Just So is directed by Glen Lee, with assistant Ellyn Patte. The musical director is Brent Turner, choreographer is Donna Lajeunesse. Producers are Shirley Stefaniuk and Myrna Bayliss.
Tickets are $12 ($8 for the school matinee) and available by calling 905-723-0282, at the United Way kiosk at the Oshawa Centre, on the website, www.oshawalittletheatre.com, or the theatre lobby Wednesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
