Soldier of Fortune: Payback
Soldier of Fortune is a series that has based itself on "true" blood and gore, often hyping that they have realistic damage models and more blood than other, similar games.
In earlier installments of the series, this appeared to be correct. With SoF:Payback, however, it just seems like they're trying too hard.
In this game just about every shot you take, no matter what calibre of weapon you are using, is going to result in a limb littering the street. Players who love gore are going to love that feature, but for the rest of us, it will quickly become a tired gimmick. If these things had happened once in awhile as a result of a particularly good hit, then this feature would have been fine.
Graphics and sound are solid without really standing out from the pack. There are certainly games on the market that outclass SoF: Payback in these categories. If you like games that feature modern warfare then you are better off checking out Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or Ghost Recon.
End result: Unless you're a loyal fan of the series, you'll want to avoid buying this one.
About Rob Michael: Rob would like to apologize to the citizens of wherever this game is placed. I really didn't mean to litter the streets with body parts, they just kept falling off! E-mail Rob at rmichael2@sympatico.ca and let him know what you think.
