Ajax holding safety strategy meeting
Thu Sep 04, 2008

AJAX -- A strategy is being released next week on how to make a safe community safer.

Public input is being sought on the draft of the Community Safety Strategy, which includes more than 60 possible items that can be acted upon. In addition to commenting, those attending can meet partners who helped develop the strategy.

Comments made will be incorporated in the final document, which will presented to council in October.

Among the partners are The Youth Centre, Durham Regional Police, the Durham and Durham Catholic district school boards, Durham Region social services, the Safe Communities of Pickering-Ajax, Veridian Corporation, Community Development Council Durham, the John Howard Society and local residents.

Having a strategy was identified by residents and Ajax council as a main priority during the 2007-to-2010 council term.

A public forum is being held on Tuesday, Sept. 9, starting at 7 p.m., in the main branch of the Ajax Public Library, at Harwood Avenue and Achilles Road.

Free childcare will be provided by qualified Recreation and Culture staff. There will be crafts, activities and homework support. Advance registration is required for the childcare and those interested should call 905-619-2529, ext. 323.
