BOWMANVILLE -- The oval at Mosport International Speedway will play host to the top stock car series in the country this weekend.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series makes its second stop at the Bowmanville track this season. The first came back in June on the road course as J.R. Fitzpatrick captured victory ahead of D.J. Kensington and five-time CASCAR series champion Don Thomson Jr., who sits second in the standings heading into the Full Throttle Energy Drink 200, which carries a purse of $80,292.

The field of 23 cars at Mosport will be a competitive one as it will feature the three previously mentioned drivers, along with current series points leader Scott Steckly and former Champ Car series driver Alex Tagliani among others.

Steckly has been a top the series standings since the first event of the year at Cayuga International Speedway where he came away from the 200-lap feature with the win. Steckly has also captured victories at Barrie Speedway in June and at Autodrome St. Eustache in July. During the first round at Mosport, he finished fourth, which to date is his lowest finish of the season.

The lone Durham Region driver on the entry list is Joey McColm of Ajax, who enters the race coming off a season-best 18th place finish in last weekend's event at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, a race won by Andrew Ranger, who is also in this weekend's field.

The event at Mosport is the eighth race on a schedule of 13, while the series wraps up in late September with a showing at Kawartha Speedway in Fraserville (near Peterborough). Others events remaining on the slate include a trip to Quebec for next weekend's Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres, a second to trip to each of Cayuga and Barrie and one in Antigonish, Nova Scotia at the Riverside Speedway.

Tickets for this weekend's event will be available at the gate for $30, while parking and kids under 12 who are accompanied by an adult with paid admission are free.

Earlier this week in anticipation of the race, the Full Throttle Racing Display, including the #19 show car and driver Brad Graham were on hand in the Oshawa Centre parking lot to meet fans and sign autographs.
