MARIBOR, Slovenia —Kristina Vaculik of Whitby took home the gold on the balance beam today at a World Cup artistic gymnastics competition in Slovenia.

She won with a score of 14.975. The only other Canadian in the final, Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs of Toronto, was 4th with 14.175.

For Vaculik this is her first World Cup gold medal.

Vaculik also earned a silver medal on uneven bars Saturday, narrowly edged out by Hopfner-Hibbs. Vaculik earned a 14.850 to the winner’s 14.875. Nansy Damianova of Montreal added a bronze on women's vault.

Damianova was third in today's floor final with a score of 13.900 and Emma Willis of Sarnia was 7th with 13.550. The gold went to Suzane Harmes of Netherlands with a score of 14.525.

Vaculik, along with all the Canadian competitors at this weekend's Maribor World Cup, is vying for a spot on the Canadian team for this summer's Beijing Olympics. The team will be announced after the Canadian championships in early June.
