OSHAWA -- Second-year head coach Tim Baulk feels he has added a trio of impressive recruits to his Durham Lords women's basketball outfit for the 2008-09 season.

Only time will tell if he is correct, but the additions of Venice Watson (Toronto), Nytasha Galick (Shelbourne) and Natasha McGann (Oshawa) should help a program that struggled at times and posted a 5-9 record a season ago.

"I'm very pleased with this group of new players," Baulk said in a press release. "Adding this new group of players will allow us to improve our record and keep competitive in the tough East Region for years to come."

In Watson, the Lords are getting an impressive leader as she spent the last four years as captain at Runnymede Collegiate Institute in Toronto and helped guide them to a 35-10 regular season record and several tournament finals.

She was also named team MVP at the conclusion of each season.

"We are very excited to have Venice join the team next season," said Baulk. "She shows tremendous ability that will help us in our run and gun style of play. She also exhibits excellent leadership qualities which will help us on and off the court."

As for McGann, she is transferring into the police foundations program from UOIT and is eagerly awaiting a return to the court after taking a year off. Prior to enrolling at UOIT, McGann starred at Haliburton High School where she was named the team's MVP, leading the team as captain as well as on the scoresheet.

"Natasha is a true scorer who will make an immediate impact in the OCAA," stated Baulk. "Basketball fans should expect her to bring the same excitement to Durham next season as she did throughout high school."

In Galick, Baulk figures her addition will vastly improve the Lords chances on the defensive end and her ability to play any position on the floor will certainly help in the depth department.

"This is one of the finest recruiting classes Durham College has had in years," Baulk added. "The potential the team has for success is tremendous with the combination of these great athletes and last season's returning athletes."
