OSHAWA -- Yet another name has been added to the list of recruits for the UOIT Ridgebacks women's hockey program as they prepare for year two. Emily Bremer, a resident of Barrie, has been added to the fold by Gary Pitcher, and the head coach is looking very much forward to seeing what the all-around athlete will bring to the ice for the Ridgebacks. "Emily's experience will be an asset to the team," said Pitcher in a press release. "She's played top quality hockey at a number of levels and has demonstrated herself as a leader at each stop along the way." Bremer is a right handed forward who last played with the Barrie Sharks Midget 'AA' squad and she also competed at the 2008 Ontario Winter Games, earning a fourth place finish. Bremer's leadership is one of her strong suits, as she was named captain of both the varsity girls' hockey team and senior girls' soccer team at her high school in Barrie. Among her other high school accomplishments: she was named the Junior Female Athlete of the Year (2006), Junior Girls Basketball MVP (2006) and Junior Girls Soccer MVP (2005, 2006). She was also named Most Valuable Player for her varsity girls' hockey team in 2007. Her addition brings the number of recruits the Ridgebacks have nabbed in the last month to six.
