Men's hockey lands a recruit from their own backyard
The UOIT's men's hockey team continue to gear up for their second season and have added Pickering native Jeremy Whelan to the fold. "I am pleased that Jeremy has decided to compete for us next season," said head coach Marlin Muylaert in a news release. "Jeremy brings a nice combination of skill and grit to the game and we see him as a player who will develop effectively with the style of play of the Ridgebacks." Whelan has gained valuable experience playing in the OHL and OPJHL over the past several seasons. Last season, he split time between the Hamilton Red Wings and Huntsville Otters in the OPJHL. The 6-foot winger averaged more than a point per game. In his OHL career, Whelan played with the Mississauga IceDogs from 2004-2006. He also appeared in the Barrie Colts lineup during the 2005 season. He was selected in the 4th round of the OHL priority draft. Whelan has now submitted his application to UOIT and is currently waiting for his acceptance. With the addition of Whelan and the other recruits, the Ridgebacks are looking to be in great shape heading into the 2008-2009 season.
