LOSSA senior girls' soccer playoffs set

DURHAM -- Playoffs for Durham senior girls' soccer are set to begin next week with the Round 1 contest.

The top four teams in the Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletics (LOSSA) senior league all received byes through the opening round of the playoffs, led by the first-place and defending 'AAAA' champion St. Mary Catholic Secondary School Monarchs, which ended the LOSSA regular season unbeaten with a 6-0-1 record, with their lone blemish being a scoreless tie against Ajax High School.

The J. Clarke Richardson Storm, Sinclair Secondary School Celtics and the Dunbarton High School Spartans also received first-round playoff byes.

Eighth-ranked Uxbridge Secondary School Tigers play the ninth-ranked Pine Ridge Secondary School Pumas in one Round 1 matchup. The Ajax High School Rams (No. 5) play the Pickering High School Trojans (No. 12), the Father Leo J. Austin Wildcats (No. 7) face the 10th-ranked Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School Cougars and the sixth-seeded All Saints Titans play the 11th-seeded O'Neill Collegiate Redhawks.

The winner of the Uxbridge/Pine Ridge meets top-seeded St. Mary Monarchs in quarter-final action on Thursday, May 22 at the Pickering school at 3 p.m.

Other quarter-final contests: winner of Ajax/Pickering meets fourth-seeded Dunbarton; winners of Austin/Notre Dame faces second-seeded Richardson, and the winners of All Saints/O'Neill meets third-seeded Sinclair.

Semifinal games are slated for Consumers fields in Whitby on Tuesday, May 27 at 2:30 p.m.

The LOSSA final is on Thursday, May 29 at 2:30 p.m., also at Consumer fields.
