BRAMPTON -- It seems the Brampton Excelsiors have done what the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks could not in the Major Series Lacrosse playoffs.

Shut down the Brooklin Redmen, and specifically captain Shawn Williams, who ran wild over the Kodiaks, scoring 19 points in a three-game first round sweep.

For Williams, the focal point of the Redmen offence, the opportunities, and space to create appear harder to come by through the first two games of the second round, as he's been limited to all of a pair of goals.

With that in mind, it's of little surprise the Redmen find themselves in dire need of a win heading into Wednesday's Game 3 at Iroquois Park (8:30) trailing 2-0 in the series.

"You know we've been playing well. They definitely are a good team and we knew we had our work cut out for us," said Williams, after losses of 13-1 in Game 1 and 10-6 in Game 2, both in Brampton. "All the things we're trying to do we're getting done, it's just once you get inside their big line of defence they have two outstanding goalies and (Anthony) Cosmo the other night was a huge difference. I don't think the 13-1 was indicative of how we played. It was more so of how Cosmo played."

Coach Peter Vipond concurred with his captain, and heaped further praise on Cosmo.

"The guy has stood on his head," said Vipond. "To my money, Anthony is the best goaltender in the league. Actually he is the best goaltender in the game, east or west."

But as good as Cosmo has been, Vipond wasn't about to take anything away from the rest of the Excelsiors.

"We're playing well, and doing some things we want to do, but let's not kid ourselves they are the class of the league without question," Vipond said. "They are the team to beat. Not Peterborough, not St. Regis. They are the team to beat."

If the Redmen have any hope of getting back into the series, they'll need to find a way to crack Cosmo's armour tonight, but Williams cautioned against looking too far ahead.

"You can't worry about winning the series. You can't even worry about winning that game," he said of the mind-set to carry into Game 3. "At the start of the game you have to worry about each shift."

In Game 1 Brooklin fell behind 3-0 after one period, and thanks to Cosmo's goaltending clinic, Williams's marker in the second was all the Redmen could muster.

Though the goals were a little easier to come by in Game 2, the six scored were still not enough in a 10-6 defeat.

"They are going to score goals, and keeping it to 10 is pretty good," Williams said of Brampton. "We've just got to get up there now."
