CLARINGTON -- Two Bowmanville boys, age 12 and 13, are missing in the Ganaraska Forest after they went to search for the family dog when it ran off.  The boys have been missing since 5:30 Monday evening.

The dog came out of the woods but the boys did not return.  The family began searching immediately, police were called about 7 p.m., and a search has been underway through the night. However, thick fog at daybreak hampered search efforts.

The search area is on Boundary Road, east of Hwy. 115.

Durham Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police have been conducting a grid search on the ground.  The York Regional Police helicopter and a search and rescue helicopter from CFB Trenton were also called-in in the early morning hours.

Officers on ATV's and police dogs are being used to comb the area at this hour and a police command post has been set up on Boundary Road.
