From June 3 to July 5, LimeLighting Theatre will present six days of classes for actors ages 12 to 18. Students will study acting for the stage, learning character development and acting techniques through theatre exercises, improv, scene analysis and rehearsal. The session will end with a presentation of the scenes. Students will receive feedback and constructive criticism after their performances.
LimeLighting owner Corey Agnew, mentoring with Anthony Lyn, associate director of Mary Poppins on Broadway, said the focus of the classes will be on characterization, connection to text and scene partner, spontaneity and believability. The purpose is to explore acting techniques, not to mount a full-scale show, he said.
Students ages 12 to 15, as of December, 2008, will attend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those ages 16 to 18 will attend from 5 to 9 p.m.
Agnew and Nina Foxall will be the instructors. Agnew, who was involved with OLT's youth group, recently completed his first year of music theatre performance at Sheridan College. He's directed youth plays at OLT, including Anne of Green Gables and Annie Warbucks. He ran acting classes for youth last summer at OLT.
Foxall, an OLT board member, is a director, producer, set designer and more in her involvement with theatre. She helps with OLT's youth group and recently designed the set for the current production, Just So.
