PORT PERRY -- Scugog Memorial Public Library kicks off a program designed to keep kids reading and provide volunteer opportunities for teens.

Reading Buddies is a new program that matches volunteer tutors with children in Grades 2-4, either in one-on-one or small group basis. The program is designed to help the younger students keep up their reading skills during the summer, hopefully making them enthusiastic readers.

Applications are being accepted through July 2 for the program. Kids will be paired with volunteers on a 'first come, first served basis' and number of participants may be limited based on the number of teen volunteers participating in the program.

The summer session runs for six weeks, with teams meeting one hour once a week on Friday mornings.

Teen volunteer applications are available at the library or can be downloaded from the library's website at www.scugoglibrary.ca. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. June 30.
