UXBRIDGE -- Uxbridge is looking to a new method to get residents interested about how their tax dollars are spent. The Township is hosting an open house regarding the 2009 budget on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m., "an informal gathering with all elected officials and senior staff present to discuss budget items and issues with the public," reads a report from treasurer Al Shultz. "It is anticipated that departments would be able to discuss the timing of capital projects based on their development of the 10-year capital forecasts necessary for the development charges study." The report notes public participation in budget talks has been minimal. "Over the past few years several approaches have been tried (in) publicizing the budget process and seeking input into the budget," it reads. "Public meetings on the budget have been held early in the process when little has been determined in regards to projects and final tax levy, and late in the process when only fine-tuning of the budget was anticipated. Neither approach seemed to encourage full public participation."
