Talks started on May 8 and the union will continue to bargain with GM until Wednesday evening said CAW Local 222 president Chris Buckley.
Ford recently reached an agreement with the CAW.
"As of today it doesn't appear to be as easy as Ford was," said Mr. Buckley.
The union's collective agreement does not expire until September but Mr. Buckley said they decided to start bargaining early because both union and management understand the state of the auto industry today.
The union is looking for a commitment to future product allocation, said Mr. Buckley. He said he is "cautiously optimistic" they will be able to reach an agreement.
