Durham Regional Police are sporting a different look this morning.

Members of the police union will be wearing ball caps instead of police hats today as part of job action.

The caps have the slogan “10-33” on them, which is police code for officer needs help.

Prior to the protest, Durham Regional Police Association president Doug Cavanaugh said DRPA members are frustrated that they’ve been without a contract since the beginning of the year.

Members of the region’s police services board appear reluctant to begin contract negotiations in earnest, he said.

Prior to negotiations on the weekend, police board representative Terry Clayton said a deal could be in the offing soon, but the board is conscious of financial implications.

The two sides are scheduled to get together later this month for another round of talks.
